Mapped screens in the room

Google Cloud needed a room in São Paulo where clients could understand what the cloud actually does for them. We designed the whole visit as one narrative instead of a tour of demos, because the argument only lands if you feel it before you hear it.

The idea came from the overview effect, the shift astronauts describe when they first see Earth from orbit: sudden clarity, the whole picture at once, borders gone. To rethink your business you have to change where you are standing. So we sent people up. Visitors stepped into an elevator inside the Google office, the doors closed, and the ride kept going past the top of the building, through the atmosphere and into the dark.

The doors opened on a spaceship. Sixteen mapped screens wrapped the room with Earth turning outside, and the demos ran as the ship's own instruments.

Instead of showing products we handed visitors a business to run. The stations belonged to a fictional resort, and the executives were its managers: every demo was a problem the resort needed solved, worked through with big data, AI, computer vision, and the rest of the Google Cloud stack. The technology arrived as the answer to something they were already responsible for, which is a very different feeling from watching a capability deck.

The film asked whether they were seeing their own business as clearly, then brought them back down through country, city, street, building, to their teams, their tools, their processes. They left with a mission instead of a sales deck.
